# Orlando Police Release Video of Downtown Confrontation, Fatal Shooting by Officers

**ORLANDO, Fla. –** Orlando police on Sunday released body camera footage of a confrontation that ended in a fatal shooting by officers in downtown Orlando.

The incident occurred on May 3, 2025, around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Orange Avenue and Central Boulevard. According to police, officers responded to a report of a man acting erratically and causing a disturbance.

The body camera footage shows officers approaching a man identified as John Doe, 35. The man was reportedly armed with a knife and refused to comply with officers' commands to drop the weapon.

The video captures the tense moments leading up to the shooting. Officers can be heard repeatedly instructing Doe to drop the knife, but he continued to advance towards them. After several warnings, an officer fired multiple shots, striking Doe.

Doe was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the incident.

Orlando Police Chief John Smith released a statement saying, "Our officers are trained to use deadly force only as a last resort. This incident is a tragic reminder of the dangers our officers face every day. We are fully cooperating with the State Attorney's Office as they conduct an independent investigation into the shooting."

The State Attorney's Office has confirmed that they are reviewing the case and will determine whether the use of force was justified.

The family of John Doe has released a statement expressing their grief and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The community is urged to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Orlando Police Department.
