Made offer to purchase something on Craigslist by cashier's check. After learning that this practice is often a scam, I asked if cash would be possible, since you have to use cash to get a money order anyways. They said they were getting a money order for a job and would just have it made out to me, which seemed odd that they were getting paid the exact amount of the item I was selling. I told them I couldn't accept a money order because it takes a few weeks for it to be verified (the funds are usually dispersed much more quickly, but the verification process is much longer.) They tried to insist otherwise, but I explained that to them and also that Craigslist specifically says not to deal with money orders and they suddenly went ghost. Looked up the number and found it's registered several states away (more suspicious). Maybe their whole story was true, but it was very suspicious that someone several states away was willing to mail a money order for $500 to a person they'd never met for an item they'd never seen. Just wanted the rest of the internet to know.
