I received a call and was informed that they were offering "no-charge" energy audits to see if I qualify for a provincial rebate program. It was called the Ontario Save-On Energy Program is what they said on the phone. After looking up this program on the government website and after contacting the Ontario Government directly I was able to actually find that the program DID exist and that the people were just representing a local HVAC company who is a participating contractor in the provincial program and they offer no charge energy audits and then show you the benefits of high efficiency equipment and environmentally friendly equipment as well. The government agent said it is a common marketing strategy and that if they are participating contractors that I needn't worry too much as they are screened and that be sure to ask for ID to ensure they are who they say they are.

Same thing happened to us 2pm and 8pm today.

Call display came in as V13012015900267. The caller said he was from some Ontario Hydro program...offering savings of $500 to $??? He had a heavy accent and I had a hard time understanding what he was saying. I said I wasn't interested, goodbye and hung up. When I hit call back it registered as 613-981-2847. There was a voice mail (also very hard to hear/understand) which sounded like "Ontario Hydro Corporate Initiative". When I Googled that, the closest thing I found was OH's LEAP program (a CUSTOMER Initiative). I'm going to call OH and ask if they're doing outreach by phone. I expect it's a scam though.
