A male person told me I had won $5,500,000.00 in a lottery. He said they were not associated with Publisher's Clearing House. He said I needed to go buy a Gift Card for $83.00 to process my winning number. He asked me how far it was to the nearest Walgreen's Store so he could gauge how long it would take me to go get the card. When I told him it sounded like a fraud call he said "If you don't want to accept this price, we can make it out to your favorite charity." I got the card and gave him the numbers (of course it was a fraud call but I didn't stop to think, I just acted.) When it dawned on me what I had done, I told him to go ahead and use the card because it was a cheap lesson I had just learned. He said I was wrong. The next day he called and told I would need to send them $9,900.00 (I don't remember the exact amount) to enable them to pay the taxes on my winnings. I told them to give my winnings to my favorite charity and tell them to pay the taxes! He said "I will do that and you will be getting a thank you note from them. You are a very generous person." I said "Thank You" and hung up the phone.
