Voice mail message left for an urgent response from the IRS stating immediate action was going to be taken against me if I did not settle my debt. That really made me mad. I know that the IRS does not contact anyone by phone, it is always through the mail with an attached statement. When they ask me for my information-- I plainly told them to "state their business." Not one time did the caller introduce themselves as an IRS agent nor did they give a badge number. Idiots. I was not giving out any information. You are the IRS and you called me, so you should know my information. Stop calling me was my last response

Similar experience. foreigner answered when I called back asked for his badge number and he tried to get me to confirm my address that he didn't have. Told him never call me again and that the irs does not call for any reason.

Same here. I asked him for his IRS badge number and he would not provide it. I told him he was NOT the IRS and not to call me again. I am a tax accountant and want to remind everyone that the IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU without some kind of correspondence via mail first agreeing that they are to call you.

Received an automated voicemail saying that "IRS is filing a lawsuit against me." My mother called them and an and Indian sounding man answered asking for my name. Didn't answer when asked if he was American.

a foreigner answered when I called back, said he was IRS. Asked me continue waiting. finally told him no and hung up. I have no problems with the IRS, so I knew this was bogus call.
