Probably a crank call but I’m not certain. Called at 10:24pm on a weeknight and first off requested toilet paper. Being neighborly I replied “Sure, come by and get some.” They went on to tell me that they were calling so I’d bring some by. To which I asked, “Ok where am I taking it?”
The speaker—sounded much like a frail old woman, said that it had been so long since she’d talked to someone, that she was so lonely since her husband died.
It was too much to bear, and too suddenly. I hung up. Now I feel slightly ashamed and I hope it was a crank call.
